OUR HISTORY

Founded on February 7, 1976

by Xiomara Dajer de Menéndez, Jackeline Gómez de Kelly, Matty Bisonó de Herrera, Clara Negrón de Morales, and Margarita Llanso, among other women from La Romana's community.

Originally, the PBO's work was conceived as a social support group for the social work that Father Abreu was doing towards the vulnerable community in La Romana. Due to his unexpected death in 1977, the PBO took over the responsibility of continuing his work. Through this experience of social support, it became evident the great needs of the impoverished children in La Romana. That is why, at that moment, the PBO began to collect funds for the establishment of the Orphanage.

The Orphanage began operations in 1982 with 13 children in the daycare level at its current location, and also hosted some homeless children. With the passage of the years, the Orphanage grew and in 1995 the school was equipped to teach up to 4th grade; for the 2000s, it reached 8th grade, and finally, in 2005, it began the development of the bachelor's degree, graduating in August 2009.
