Two Hogar del Niño students do an Internships at the NU

Sharon Encarnación and Nahomy Luis, two of our students from the Hogar del Niño school, were awarded scholarships by the Patronato Benéfico Oriental, Inc. to participate in an internship at the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations, at the headquarters of the UN in New York.

The process began by interviewing 12 meritorious students from the Hogar del Niño School, of which 2 were selected to live this experience, then going through an evaluation process before the UN.

On July 6, 2023, they traveled to NYC, where Jeanette Limas, an appreciated PBO collaborator to whom we extend our gratitude, met them at the airport to welcome them to the city they were visiting for the first time.

"We were very happy to have arrived and even happier with Jeanette Limas, with how she showed us all the basics you need to know when you arrive in NY. We are equally grateful to the great people she introduced us to so we could go through this experience at the UN. We also thank our dear Don Sergio and his wife, where we stayed." -Nahomy Luis.

Likewise, we would like to thank Gala Matos, third secretary in the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations (UN) and Karla Tejeda, first secretary in the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations ( UN), organizers of this delegation and who guided our students throughout the entire process.

Our mission at the PBO and Hogar del Niño is to provide basic needs and growth opportunities in Education, Health and Leadership through the necessary tools that allow them to obtain a better quality of life for themselves and their families.
